Becky Aston Physiotherapy

Specialist women's and men's health physiotherapy practice based in Berkhamsted, Herts.

We are a dedicated team of specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapists, passionate about helping women and men feel confident, informed, and in control of their pelvic health.

You may never have heard of a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, but the specialism has existed in some form for over 100 years. It has evolved significantly during that time, and today we offer an approach that is both empathetic and evidence-based—enabling us to provide effective, long-term treatment for conditions that are still widely under-reported and under-treated.

We support individuals of all ages who may be experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic musculoskeletal pain, pregnancy-related concerns, postnatal recovery needs, or those preparing for or recovering from gynaecological or urological surgery. Our services also include specialised scar therapy and a range of other treatments tailored to your unique needs.

Discover Services

With years of experience and 100's of happy clients, Becky, Jo, Rachael and Kat assess and treat many conditions including;

Pregnancy and Beyond

This service covers physiotherapy during and after pregnancy, addressing musculoskeletal dysfunctions that may arise due to postural changes, muscle function shifts (especially abdominal and pelvic-floor muscles), and bladder or bowel changes. Conditions treated include pelvic girdle pain (PGP, aka SPD), wrist/shoulder pain linked to pregnancy, pelvic-floor pain after delivery, and bladder/bowel control issues during or after pregnancy.

Treatment options include manual therapy, soft tissue release, stability exercises, pelvic support belts, and advice on daily living activities.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

This service addresses a broad range of pelvic floor issues for men, women and children — not just ageing populations. Conditions include stress urinary incontinence (leakage during cough/sneeze/exercise), overactive bladder (urgency, frequency, night-time voids), bowel incontinence (leakage, urgency, difficulty emptying), pelvic organ prolapse, and chronic pelvic pain (vulvodynia, bladder pain syndrome, anal/urethral pain etc)

Treatment involves a thorough assessment, supervised pelvic floor muscle training, manual therapy for overactive/tight muscles, and strategies to improve bladder/bowel function.

The Mummy MOT

This is a dedicated post-natal check (for any time after childbirth, whether 6 weeks or several years) carried out by a Specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist. It assesses the abdomen and pelvic floor muscles and identifies issues such as weakness or separation (diastasis recti), poor core strength, back/pelvic pain, and bladder or bowel weakness.

The session is approximately 1 hour, includes checking pelvic-floor muscle strength and tummy gap, assessing physical problems arising from pregnancy/birth, and recommending a bespoke post-natal recovery programme (including posture, breathing, core activation).

ScarWorks (Scar Therapy)

This service uses the ScarWorks technique (developed by Sharon Wheeler) to help with scar tissue that feels tight, restricts mobility, is painful or has altered sensation. It’s suitable for scars of any age (even decades old).

The technique helps smooth lumps, gaps, ridges, knots, “strings” in scar tissue, and improve integration of the scar with the surrounding myofascial system.

Men’s Pelvic Health

This specialised service supports men experiencing pelvic health issues. For example: urinary incontinence after prostate surgery (up to 70% of men), overactive bladder syndrome (affecting ~16% of men), chronic pelvic pain / prostatitis (often linked to pelvic-floor muscle tightness).

Men are encouraged to seek help before or after surgery to learn pelvic-floor muscle rehabilitation. Sports/active men may also be at risk of pelvic-floor dysfunction.

Pessary Fitting

This service supports fitting a pessary device for pelvic organ prolapse. (Details on the website are less extensive in the summary provided.) The service is listed among the treatments offered.

Becky is absolutely amazing! I felt so comfortable and understood! And I learnt more about my pelvic floor in an hour than I have in my 53 years! Everything explained so much better and with far more clarity and compassion than when I have been seen by Dr’s and consultants at the hospital. Do not hesitate to go, my only wish would be that I had found her years ago! Ladies we owe it to ourselves!

I was so pleased with the treatment I got with Kat at Becky Aston. I felt that she listened, took a lot of care and gave me some great advice. I also appreciated her holding my baby when she woke up during one of the appointments!
